Discussion What're you playing this weekend? 6/9
Hello everyone! Welcome to another weekend!
I am still working my way through Tears of the Kingdom, i think I'm up to 120 hours. Part of me thinks I should take a small break, we'll see. But still having a great time. Got the Master Sword last night, loved that scene, and that's all I'm going to say about that.
I know over the years I've guided a fair number of you on fighting Lynels, I might drop a quick comment below on how I've been fairing against them this time.
What will you be getting into?
Assuring Selmie that you do know how to Shield Surf before crashing into a tree? Exploring summer camp and making your way up to the highest peak? Hoping your dice rolls will save you to exist another day on this forsaken space station?
Let me know below!

Discussion We need Nintendo Selects back
On the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, Nintendo would re-release older hits under the "Nintendo Selects" banner. Classics like Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D Land, and Animal Crossing all got put on permanent discount for $20-$30. It was a great way to bring older games into the spotlight. 6 years into the Switch's lifespan, and not even a hint of the program coming back and that sucks.
I wouldn't be foolish enough to say Nintendo's commitment to 'premium pricing' has hurt sales (they made stupid money this generation), but it certainly hurts consumers and some of their brands.
A lot of the online games are old and too expensive. I think games like Mario Tennis Aces, Pokken, and ARMS, should have price cuts just to keep the player counts high. I think it's harder to complete series because of pricing. You could go and buy Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or you could get the new and equally priced Engage. Some franchises I think would become household names. Something like Warioware or Clubhouse Games going for $25? Every Switch owner would get them.
Considering how well games have been selling, I doubt we'll see this happen, but I hold onto hope we see Nintendo Selects come back.
Edit: to address this common sentiment: yes, Nintendo doesn't need to do this. The games are still selling like hotcakes. We as customers certainly could do with it. A Switch successor is probably coming in the next two years and I don't even own a double digit number of first party titles because they're so costly.

Discussion PSA - Never buy an original Switch dock from 3rd party sellers!!!
I bought a replacement dock from eBay and it felt exactly like the original one that I had. They were working fine for the most part but there were some things that I noticed from the dock
- The green light on the dock was always on, even when the switch is in sleep mode.
- The "Match TV Power State" was not working.
So, I took it apart and this is what I got. The dock from eBay had different internal circuit board. Luckily, I got a refund and just bought a refurbished dock from Nintendo website.
Never trust eBay or any other third-party sellers saying that the dock is original/genuine. They really look and feel the same, even the printings and serial numbers were on it too. But it has possibility of bricking the switch.

Discussion Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon just received a free DLC tripling its content, and is currently on sale for a mere $10. I would like to share my love of it with you all.
TL;DR: Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is my favorite indie game of all time. One of the best games I've ever played, even. It's simply brilliant - a genius blend of incredibly unique mechanics that flawlessly come together to form a harmonical system that is super fast, challenging, varied, and fun. I included titles for each paragraph so you can choose to only read the important parts!
So what is Pocket Dungeon?
Well, if you're expecting a traditional Shovel Knight game, this game has as much to do with the original Shovel Knight as Mario Kart has to do with a mainline Mario game. It uses the same characters, world, enemies, items, etc, but the gameplay differs.
This game fuses an action platformer and a falling block puzzler. This is NOT a match 3, don't be fooled - what makes this game so unique is the way in which you control a character within the window blocks (or, enemies and obstacles in this case) fall into. Not only that, but the game moves where you move - every movement you make on the grid makes everything around you move as well. You attack by bumping into the enemy, which causes both sides to take damage - but if a group of the same enemy is touching, you can attack them all at the same time while only the front one hits you and thus score combos. These mechanics are what make the game so unique. I've never seen anything like this.
The nitty gritty details:
All of this blends together to make a game with so much depth! The game is a rogulite too - each run takes you across 11 stages, each of which has its own roster of enemies and obstacles and unique visuals and music, but the exact way things go differs every time. Within these levels, different enemies have different stats and many special gimmicks and mechanics that require you to strategize how you defeat them. The game has a roster of 15 playable characters, and the DLC introduced a second form for each that plays completely differently making for 30 in practice, and each one plays so differently some of them feel like a whole different game! Levels also contain chests with items that can turn the tide, side rooms with mini-challenges, and the shop - the larger your combos and the faster you score them, the more gems you get, which you can spend on relics that last for the whole run - every run, your relic collection will expand, but will always be different, making each attempt distinct!
How it flows:
It's hard for me to describe how much fun this game is! It's super fast, chaotic, but very challenging and precise, requiring you to constantly pay attention to multiple variables to manage your resources, and your skills and build massive combos, and of course, survive. But it's also very customizable - if you'd rather it be calmer, the difficulty can be adjusted in numerous ways to tailor the experience just for you!
Content Overview:
And there's plenty more content - almost 100 (Switch compatible!) achievements, daily and weekly runs with online leaderboards, 2-player vs (with online play coming later), and within the main game, there are not only 15 characters but 5 modes for each - the regular run, the refract run which grants them their aforementioned alternate move doubling the roster, the legendary run which remixes the mechanics of the stage and adds new ones which practically doubles the level count too, as well as a hat challenge that adds crazy chaotic modifiers you can choose between every stage and a special character challenge, personally made for each character. And both the alternate moves and alternate stages can be mixed and matched into other modes too!
Conclusion:
So why did I write this? Because I wish for other people to experience what I experienced with this gem. And I wanted you all to truly understand it and know what it has to offer as I do. I'll be happy to know if even a few people find a new favorite thanks to this post!

Hi r/NintendoSwitch!
We're Oleg (Executive Producer, u/ravenua) and Iryna (Community Manager, u/Eeridis) from Wild Fields. We're a Ukraine-based game studio, and today marks the release of our first game, Speed Crew! It's a high-octane, cooperative party game where you can team up with 1-4 players to form an elite pit crew. Your mission? Repair cars against the clock to secure victory in this fun and chaotic adventure.
Our game draws inspiration from titles such as Overcooked and Moving Out, among other party games. We aimed to craft a game that's unpredictable, exciting, and just a tad bit crazy :D The idea of operating as a pit stop crew resonated with us immediately, and we've been dedicating our efforts to making this game for the past year. We are eager to share the results of our hard work with you, and we hope you enjoy it! On a side note, we're incredibly proud to mention that we won the Best In Play award at GDC 2023 during our showcase there :)

Discussion TIL that there’s Youtube kids app on the Switch.
After 6 years of owning a Switch, I just learned that you can ‘activate’ Youtube Kids.
Since I became a father, my 2 y.o. daughter has been using my Switch as a glorified Youtube device lol. We don’t subscribe to YT Premium cos I use adblocker and I don’t really see the value, until my daughter came and she HATES ads.
So I did some digging and apparently you can enable it by having Youtube kids profile in your google account. You should be able to create a YT kids account through web via youtubekids site or through the YT kids mobile app.
Once created, you should be able to change the profile from your default to the ‘kids’ one in your Youtube app on Switch. And voila, it should be working. UI changed to kids and ads are now disabled, but obviously the videos youd see are for kids.
