I grew up in California but moved to PA in 2020, partly so my vote would count in that critical election but also to see how I liked living somewhere that wasn’t insanely expensive. But I’ve since moved back because there are some irreplaceable (to me) reasons why CA is so expensive. It’s hard to choose a new home location based primarily on political ramifications. If you can do it and it works for you, hats off to you!

I remember when I started pointing out that forcing women to bear children was torture about 2 years ago. Literal torture, not merely torturous. Someone suggested it wasn't because women could get abortions in other states and were free to do so. I didn't really think this made it any less torture. I saw that and it made my blood boil. Grew up in Florida, born in the US to US citizens, and my first job was at the age of 9, working in the gd groves and tomato fields. I'm Indigenous mix, but to those types , I was just another brown kid to use and abuse. God I hated working that ish, hardest job I've ever done physically.
But, when the family needs money, you can always count on them good ole boys to put the kids to work, rather than pay literally one more penny a pound. Had to do it again in 2008 as an adult, and lived in a migrant worker camp. I wish those racist candy asses driving their King Ranch trucks around the fields doing absolutely nothing would be forced to do what they make their workers do, for eternity. It keeps becoming more interesting to be a woman in Idaho. They have hospitals refusing to deliver babies at all because of risks to the doctor if there are complications and OBGYNs leaving the state for the same reason.
If you go to another state to give birth because it is the closest hospital willing to deliver your child, but there are complications, would you face criminal charges? If you go out of state with just a positive on a home test, how can they prove you went out of state to get an abortion v going out of state on vacation?

Washington and Oregon are doing their best to keep access to abortion, abortion is legal in Nevada, and Montana’s attempts to outlaw it are stymied by the 1982 rewrite of their constitution. It will take an amendment to change that.
So, in 4 of the 5 states that border Idaho, abortion is legal.
Idahoans already regularly cross the border into OR and WA to buy pot.
I can’t for the life of me figure out why Eastern Oregon wants to join Idaho.

If Idaho don’t invest in vaccines or ventilators, then why should the people of Washington have to go without because the people of Idaho aren’t in need of them?

We all are. This is just one of the most shocking things thus far. This virus is infecting the whole country. We are losing our bodily autonomy. And each of the states are pushing the envelope a little bit further and a little bit further. And no one is stopping them. And they are not going to stop.
Why can’t we be like France? They are raising utter hell about raising the retirement age by 2 years. And we are all sitting by going to our jobs every day like this isn’t happening. I just hate it so much. We are so broken. Sorry for the rant but damn this shit is getting so out of control. And I want people to realize this is, or should be a national issue.

Because when Americans start ramping up slightly towards that kind of civil unrest, anything beyond a performance-protest with a permit that doesn't even inconvenience anyone, the militarized police roll in. People get arrested and people get injured, and some even die. Anything approaching actually pushing for change is shut down hard and violently.

The only upside to this is that is in unconstitutional in a way that not even this Supreme Court is likely to permit.
You cannot criminalize engaging any activity in a state where it is legal. It’s the same legal structure that keeps them from prosecuting you for going to Vegas and gambling if it is illegal where you live.
If they reverse that, our entire legal system collapses. I think even Kavanaugh would flinch at that, and I know Roberts would.

Yet its not necessarily a no brainer. You still have a life you're leaving behind, and sure its all fine and good that they can't get you unless you return but you might be stuck in a state you cannot afford to live in as a result.
Someone's gonna have to make the decision between being homeless in Seattle or keeping a low profile so they can go back to Idaho where their job, family, friends, and community are. Plus with how little places care about homeless people, whose to say Idaho won't send unmarked goons to snatch suspected abortion refugees off the street to do some extra-judicial extradition.
If we're gonna have abortion asylum systems in place, it's gonna need to be a lot more than just "we won't extradite" for that to be anything more than lip service.

I vividly remember being taken to a mill on a field trip when I was a kid. They had us pretend to work then gave us like four “company coins” as pay. Then had us try to figure out how to pay for rent ( three company coins ) and food ( two company coins ). The only solution was to steal or just have the company who you worked for, rented from and bought food from basically own your soul.
Crazy how every single kid in my 4th grade glass realized how company towns were horrid ideas for normal people back then but nowadays a lot of adults will support that shit.

The AN sub hasn’t been active for about a year now (at least not for the purpose it was meant for).
Forced birthers found it because too many people kept linking it with good intentions outside of the sub, and they started reporting it. Since AN deals with medication drugs and not always legal things, operations were forced to stop.

My Grandma is in hospital dying, her organs are shutting down. On the night my mother went into the ward reception there were a lot of people waiting for a bed. An elderly woman pleading to my mother for help, luckily her daughter was there at the reception speaking to someone but my mother told me it was bad. They allow corruption to happen at the top of the NHS and its gonna fall apart I can see it.

The Unwind series is more apt. All abortions are banned BUT as a compromise once your child turns a certain age (I forget exactly how old but it was around 13) you can have them “unwound” which means vivisecting them and using their organs and tissues for other people. Since they don’t really “die” people think this is fine. One character who received an intact frontal lobe of an unwound kid has parts of that other kid’s mind in his head giving him a sort of split personality. It’s terrifying.

I lived in Sandpoint and was born at Bonner Gen, so I'm not surprised by this at all. My dad used to work there as a surgical tech and he left because of poor patient care, especially for women.
He had several female friends who needed elective surgery (knee replacement, rotator cuff, etc.) but the surgeons there refused because these women were "too old". They were 40-50 y/o, but these same surgeons would do elective surgeries on men 60+.135

This is the unfortunate part that doesn’t get enough discussion - Idahoans already flood to parts of Washington and us Washington residents end up paying for it. Literally. The hospitals are overrun with people from out of state.
Please know I want everyone to get healthcare and I’m not complaining about people receiving care, but I am saying that red states create a problem that blue states then have to remedy and at what cost?
Another example - during COVID Idaho didn’t have as strict of COVID restrictions so they had huge outbreaks and had to send patients over to Washington to get care when their hospitals were overrun and it created a backlog here.

Mostly I was lucky. I lived close to the WA border and was able to find a job in my field quickly, plus I had savings to pay for the move. My kid's dad tried to fight me on it for a bit but gave in quickly, so that was a lot less complicated than it could have been too. Not everyone who needs to get out is in a position to do so, but at the same time I didn't want my kid having to be the crusader every minute of every day. I told them when they came out that adolescence sucks for everybody, but there's no reason it had to suck more for them.

To be clear you can sue a career out from under a doctor for telling someone else your lab results, let alone your medical history without your expressed, formal AND written consent. Period.

Jihadists are not looking to topple the west with a car bomb. Their goal, in part, is to foment an anti-Muslim sentiment because they don’t want Muslim diaspora, they want Muslims as far away from Western culture as humanly possible. They want their people to be as concentrated as possible so as to exert maximum political and social pressure.
They want their brothers to come home.
For decades, the political right has done everything it can to make their numbers count more because they realize their party ceases to exist otherwise. The conservative demographic is dying, quite literally. Each new generation becomes less and less interested in their backwards asses but they’ve got a pretty big range of tricks to tip the scales away from democracy.
Gerrymandering. Redistricting. Closing voting locations. Cutting off the USPS at the knees to slow mail voting. VoterID. These are the first volleys in an assault on democracy.
What’s plan B if all the skullfuckery doesn’t result in a GQP caliphate?
Concentrate forces geographically. It’s better to hold all of the power in half the country than it is to hold no power across the nation. Concentration of forces itself is a force multiplier. In the case of the GQP, it also results in more groupthink because the differing views got run out of town.
Yes, progressives will suffer from concentrated groupthink as well, and that’s bad, it just isn’t their fscking goal.
It may seem backwards for a party to seemingly go out of its way to alienate the moderates and enrage its opponents. The political right’s plan for the next 20 years might be hidden in plain sight.
If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.

This is exactly how the Civil War started. The whole focus of all the slavery and states rights debates that led to the Civil War was the extradition of runaway slaves. When slaves fled north, the abolitionist states refused to send them back south, and the southern states found that unacceptable.
It's why one of the core laws in the Confederate Constitution was that states must not only allow slavery, but returning escaped slaves back to their owners must be the law.
So, in summary, the south wanted to be able to control people, and the north allowed it as long as they kept it with their borders. But the south wasn't content with that, they wanted their laws to extend to other states. And they cared enough to go to war over it. Sound familiar?

Lawyer here. This should violate the negative implications of the commerce clause of the U.S. constitution. The commerce clause prohibits state laws that have a substantial economic impact on interstate commerce. Idaho residents being prohibited from getting abortions would have a substantial enough economic effect on interstate commerce
